Yosemite Garbage Cleanup Focuses on Human Waste, Small Garbage
Yosemite National Park’s largest volunteer cleanup event – Yosemite Facelift – removed 3,361 pounds of cigarette butts, diapers, discarded toilet paper and other trash from Yosemite Valley last week. And in fact, it was the smallest amount the event had ever brought in.
The relative cleanliness of the park was to be expected, given that Yosemite has seen far fewer visitors since the start of the pandemic. But Facelift founder and Yosemite Climbing Association president Ken Yager, who has been climbing the park since 1972, says there’s another factor at play.
