On the courts Monday, the Timberwolves and Lynx Academy took over the Burns Wellness Commons from the College of Saint Scholastica (CSS) for their Youth Hoops Camp.
Coaches focused on teaching young athletes important basketball skills, as well as lessons beyond the doors of the gym.
“Whenever you teach kids basketball and give them life lessons, that’s what it’s all about. It’s more about life lessons than basketball plays, and whenever you can do that and inspire the kids, that’s what it’s about,” said DJ Peterson, director of the Basketball Academy.
“That’s how it all started. I loved camp as a kid and used to go to camps at my local high school. Going to youth and Timberwolves camps, so I remember coming to those camps when I was a kid. Every time you get to a camp like this, it’s special,” Peterson added.
Organized by the Starks Academy, the camp welcomes children from 3rd to 8th grade.
The campers’ fun continues until Wednesday.
